MSI GL63 15.6″ Full HD IPS Gaming Notebook Computer, Intel Core i7-8750H 2.2GHz, 8GB RAM, 128GB SSD + 1TB HDD, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050Ti 4GB, Windows 10
Pros: I like the keyboard backlight and the feel of the keys. The i7-8750H CPU was the main reason I bought this laptop and I was not disappointed.
CONS: WiFi occasionally has an attack and stops working. I tried to update the driver and use older versions without improvement. Finally, I just opened the back of the case, removed the WiFi card, and put it back. It may have been released since delivery or even from the factory because I haven’t had a problem for a few months.
I had to disable part of the audio driver package due to an error. If you are not using an administrator account, the Nahmic Audio Service crashes every few seconds (without a popup dialog). Then create a dump file. Copy the location to the clipboard. It won’t take you long to have a few hundred megabytes or even a few gigabytes of dump files. This is not the case if you are using an administrator account. All driver versions for this laptop have the problem and it happens to many other computers, not just MSI with this special audio hardware. I am not using Nahmic, so I disabled it and the problem disappeared.
Overall rating: The deletion key is in a strange place. I didn’t even think about checking this out before buying the product because I’ve never seen the Delete key on this keyboard and it annoys them easily. It is located to the right of the insert key above the / key on the numeric keypad.
I knew I had bought it, but 8GB of RAM just wasn’t enough. However, the cost of the 16GB model was too high, so I bought this 8GB model and then upgraded the memory. The internal SSD is quite small at 128GB. The 1TB hard drive gives you enough space, though 128GB isn’t much for things you want to access faster. I haven’t bothered to update it yet, but could do so later.
If you are looking for a gaming computer, it is not the most balanced for its price. The i7 isn’t really any better than a cheaper CPU, and it could spend the difference on better graphics, memory, and a bigger SSD. This computer was perfect for what I wanted, which was something with more CPU power for my engineering programs. Decent graphics are a bonus, but you can do better if you’re only interested in games. I have searched a lot and found that this is the cheapest laptop with the i7-8750H, and I do not regret my purchase.
